The Obesity Subcommittee was formed in response to identifying decreasing obesity as a health priority in the 2014 Community Health Assessment. Thus far, the Obesity Subcommittee has focused on the following action items:
- Implement the OrganWise Guys program as part of a multifaceted intervention targeting healthy eating and active living
- Conduct the Exercise is Medicine referral program to improve physical activity levels
- Develop comprehensive community plans that include health considerations
- Support worksite wellness programs
Future work will include conducting a needs assessment around childcare food environments, partnering with Chatham Hospital to expand the availability of healthy hospital food, establishing community gardens, expanding the Safe Routes to School program, and establishing a series of point of decision prompts to increase physical activity.
We welcome all interested residents and organizations to join the Alliance and our subcommittees. If you would like to be a part of the Alliance’s efforts, we welcome you to join us by competing the survey at Get Involved or by contacting Laura Hearn, Project Manager for the Obesity Subcommittee.
